My Bio

About me

I’m Ali. I’m a barber/braider and have been for the past eleven years. Proud to say I am among the minority of people who love their job and I can’t wait to show you how to braid! It’s an honor to share my experience, techniques, and designs with you. I know first hand what it’s like to perfect a skill, and then make a living from it, and there is no reason why you can’t do it too.

I have been doing hair since graduating high school, but it wasn’t until I began working at a shop named “Cut To Contrast” in San Francisco that I began to professionally braid as a service. Since then I feel like I’ve done it all-from taking classes from braiders I admire, to braiding people for free after hours for the practice. There’s been countless hours practicing on clients from friends and family to mannequin heads. I have spent years trying to hone my skills and learn about this industry. All of which, I put here. Everything I wish I had in the beginning, is condensed in The Braid Course.

The Vision Behind The AliTeachesHair Courses

“Ali Teaches Hair” became a passion project in 2020. I realized I wanted to branch out from only working behind the chair but wasn’t sure how. It was important to me that I didn’t use my content to just sell a gel or a comb. I was confident I could help braiders (or those wanting to braid) learn and made up my mind that teaching is what I wanted to do. in 2018 I broke my finger. Not having any plan other than doing hair I realized that (not only do I need to insure my hands) I need a back up plan. Ever have the shop conversation about what you would do if you didn’t cut hair? I would be a teacher. In 2020 when I was left with far too much time to think about my career during quarantine, I decided meshing the two paths of my life was kind of a rad idea! The Braid Course “Ali Teaches Hair” began to take shape. Now, here we are.

I’m Driven By Teaching, Growing, and Helping All Levels.

I strive to be a role model who works everyday to change the perceptions of gender within this industry. Since the beginning it has been important to me to learn and continue to become the best. My dream is that the word female in front of my job title “ barber/braider” will someday be irrelevant. I have been the first female to work at almost every shop I have been employed. From Florida to California I do my best to set an example of how there is plenty of room for women in the barbering industry.
